Fat Bike Rentals at Summerstown Trails
The rental of fat bikes is offered at the Summerstown Trails, at the trailhead. Rentals are available on winter weekends only, during our regular rental period (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.). The bikes are rented out for one-hour periods at a cost of $15. We do not take reservations.
Riders are able to access the 10 km of multiuse trails, with signage posted to aid in navigation. The trails are groomed specifically for fat biking by our volunteers using a snowdog. There are trails that the beginners will like and some for the more experienced riders.
Fat biking is a popular activity for those looking for a way to participate in a winter activity in a great environment. In order to achieve more stability and get better traction, fat bikes have tires with a minimum width of 9.4 cm (3.5 inches) and a tire pressure less than 10 pounds of air.
We have eight (8) fat bikes available for rental which will accommodate everyone, from young teenagers to tall adults (2 large, 4 mediums and 2 junior). All of our bikes have studs, except for the junior bikes. We recommend that everyone wear a helmet, even if the Ontario law stipulates that it is only mandatory for those under the age of 18. A regular bicycle helmet will do (we will have some at the trails to lend out), but many bikers wear their ski helmets as they are warmer.
